About
us
The
name 'Cursorius Photo Library' was adopted in 1995. Cursorius is
the Latin name for the genus 'Courser', a group of birds from the
deserts and semi-deserts of Africa and Asia. Logo was designed by
Leo JR Boon.
The
first published photographs from the 'Cursorius Photo Library' appeared
in Birding World (Vol 9:3) in March 1996 and in Dutch Birding (Vol
18:2) in April 1996.
The
four photos in Birding World, made by Leo JR Boon, were accompanying
an article about 'Birding in Israel' by Sean McMinn and Hadoram
Shirihai. The photos in Dutch Birding included the first ever published
photo of Cape Verde Purple Heron (Ardea bournei) photographed
on the Cape Verde Islands during an ornithological trip by Theo
Bakker.
At
the beginning of 1997 Cursorius started to capture birds on video
as well. This led to a slight change of name: 'Cursorius Photo &
Video Library'.
Since
the first of January 2001 'Cursorius Photo & Video Library'
is an official photo and video library.
'Cursorius
Photo & Video Library' is based in Zandvoort, close to the shores
of the North Sea.
Not
only birds are photographed or videod; landscapes, mammals, nature,
travel etc. and on assignments photoshoots with models in many different
aspects. See for more information the Assignments
page.
